Another Day and Another Walk in the Park

Had a nice slow start to the day with a beautiful breakfast, smashed avocado on toast with fried mushrooms and a poached egg, something we will repeat! We headed off late morning to the Strickland State Forest for a couple of loop walks. Lovely place with a walk around an Arboretum that was planted between 1899 and 1924. It’s the oldest arboretum in Australia and with some fairly unique trees, including hoop and bunya pines. The trees have grown incredibly straight and tall.

It was a nice walk, crossing the creek bed a couple of times. Saw a few birds but only managed to get one pic of a thrush

The walk was about an hour so we decided to take a drive out to Wisemans ferry. Stopped at the Wiseman Inn that was has been operation since 1827. Sat there for with a cold beer (ok, 2 cold beers), listened to some live music, and just took in the local vibes. Wisemans Ferry is named after the founder Soloman Wiseman, a convict who started operating a ferry in 1827 after receiving a land grant in 1817. The ferry’s original location was moved in 1829 to align with the Great North Road that was being built between Sydney and the Hunter Valley. The ferry was a key transport link for convicts and supplies to build the road and has been in continuous operations for nearly 200 years!

I don’t remember what I did, but…..
I’m innocent, get me out of here!

Back home, and we spent a lively hour or so trying to book a few places for our road trip. Managed to sort out the first 4 nights that gets us through to Canberra. It’ll be an interesting trip…
