Deer Lake
We stopped in Deer Lake and got a nice little cottage for a couple of nights. No real plans, just a bit of a break from the van. Saturday we took a drive out to the Sir Richard Squires Provincial Park to see the falls. I got talking to a guy who was just back from a visit to the falls with his wife and young daughters. He told me that Atlantic Salmon are coming in to spawn and are jumping up the falls. His wife was leaving him there to fish, and she told us he had promised her a salmon for their anniversary dinner! Off we went for a short walk to the falls, and stood there mesmerized, watching the fish jump as they worked to get further upstream.

You are only allowed to catch salmon by fly fishing, and there were lots out on the river trying their best to land one!
After lunch we decided on a a nice flat walk along the Humber River. The temperature was finally in the mid 20’s, which after the past week and half felt hot! One thing we’ve both noticed here is that here are a lot of frogs. Everywhere you walk on a trail, you see frogs.

Stopped in town after the walk for a beer, then back to the cottage to BBQ a nice steak for dinner. A nice relaxing day! Off to Baie Verte next to Flatwater Pond Provincial Park for a few nights as we start working our way east towards St. Johns
