The Journey Home
Had a a quiet last day in Auckland. Went for a short walk in the rain to check our lottery ticket (we didn’t win), finished packing, then just chilled before the long haul began. Our friend Helen’s sister and husband picked us up and drove us to the airport, saving us an Uber ride!
Dinner at the airport then on the plane for leg 1 to Honolulu. Had a pretty terrible breakfast on Air NZ. Their food has been getting worse and worse. Oh well, that’s all part of the joy of travel. Cleared US customs in Honolulu, then ended up walking to one of the terminal, then back again to clear security, then back again to get to out gate. Got our steps in!
Easy flight to LA, and like Honolulu, our bags were among the last unloaded, but we’ve so far seen our luggage arrive on the same plane we were on so all good. Spent the night at the Marriott near the airport. Got a few hours sleep, then back to start the last day of air travel. Only 3 flights left. LA To Calgary, Calgary to Toronto, then Toronto to Halifax.
Landed in Calgary and cleared Customs. First stop, get a selfie with Timmie’s in the background. Brunch of course started with a Caesar, only in Canada Eh!

Calgary Airport, Tired but back in Canada
After a 3 hour layer in Calgary, it was off to Toronto Pearson, and another 3 hour layer. Our flight to Halifax got delayed about 30 minutes but we made it there by 02:00. Off to the Alt Hotel at the airport for a few hours sleep, then picked up our rental car and drove to Amherst! Stopped for a few groceries then home to turn the house back on! The hot water tank decided it wasn’t going to get hot, but that was the only issue.
We‘re glad to be back, there really is no place like home! Looking forward to catching up with everyone and settling in to the list of jobs that need to be done before we take off on our next adventure…..
