The Next Adventure - 5 Weeks in a Van in Newfoundland
Halifax - Shubie Campground

We left home yesterday to start our trip to Newfoundland. First stop though is Halifax to take in SailGP. SailGP is the Formula 1 of sailboat racing with a few twists. They sail 50 foot foiling catamarans with top speeds touching over 100 km/hr. All boats are identical and managed by a central technical committee. The only difference is the sailors themselves. Each season, they race in countries all over the world and in 2024, they first came to Halifax to race in Canada. That event was a huge success, and while logistics stopped them from coming in 2025, they’re back this year. Cathy and I have grandstand tickets for the Saturday and Sunday to watch the racing, this has been a bucket list thing for a few years now so really looking forward to it. It’s rain or shine, and given that it’s Halifax, it’s forecast to rain, but no worries, we‘ve got good rain gear! I’ll post pics of the event tomorrow.

I’ve done a lot of upgrades/repairs on our 39 year old VW Westfalia over the past couple of months to hopefully make our trip reasonably trouble free. Replaced the original fridge with a new truck fridge that even has a small freezer. Had to add a new Lithium house battery with all the charging bits needed to keep it running including 200W of portable solar panels that fold up into a nice flat carry case. Also did a few mechanical fixes and replacing a few older important parts like the fuel pump, and starter motor. I have tools, that I hope I don’t need, but…..
